Forest School is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.

What is Forest School?

Forest Schools are based on outdoor nature schools in Denmark, where children play and learn outdoors. When children learn outdoors they develop in lots of ways simultaneously and the learning they do is very secure. Minds, bodies and hearts are all exercised at once. These principles work equally well with adults too.

What are the benefits of Forest School?

Taking part in a Forest School makes a big difference to people and helps build learning strategies. Many people find it easier to learn in an active, outdoor environment where there is more space to be creative. Taking part in physical activities (like walking, running, climbing, pulling branches, digging) makes people stronger and fitter. Working on challenges with others helps build empathy and negotiation skills. It develops the language of diplomacy and clarity of explanation (logical and strategic thinking skills) Undertaking new challenges successfully increases a sense of achievement and pride. This in turn helps to develop the self esteem and resilience that have a positive knock on effect back in the classroom or workplace. The nature of forest school learning lends itself to support children with additional needs and those who find working within the classroom environment a challenge.
